Database Reliability Engineering

Designing and Operating Resilient Database Systems

Laine Campbell, Charity Majors · 2017

Why it earns its place

The book that named the role. Almost everything else written about databases addresses either the developer writing queries or the DBA guarding a server, and this addresses neither: it applies SRE practice — service levels, risk, operational visibility — to data stores. Older than the tooling it mentions, and still the only coherent account of what the job is.

Google SRE Book — Data Integrity

Covers the durability and corruption half of the discipline, free and in depth, but not the operational role around it.
